Why Switch to a Raw Foods Diet?
A raw food diet is one that relies of food that has not been heated. But why would anyone want to switched to an uncooked foods diet?
Part of the answer to this question is due to the transformation our foods undergo when they are cooked. Did you know that whenever you heat your foods, valuable enzymes, vitamins and minerals are destroyed?
Cooked food undergoes important, and damaging, chemical changes. Raw foods, on the other hand, contains the naturally occurring food enzymes that our bodies crave. Humans are the only animal that cooks its food, of course, and this unique aspect of human culture is not necessarily a good one.
But what can you eat on a raw foods diet? The answer is surprisingly varied. You will find that many raw foods diets do not contain raw animal products, since it can be unsafe to eat these uncooked (and there are other important health advantages to a primarily vegan diet as well). Raw foods diets tend to consist primarily of fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds and the possibilities of what you can do with these four basic foods is really unlimited!
On this blog you will find many raw foods recipes as well as some suggestions for raw food books to consider purchasing. In particular, I recommend you take a look at Yuri Elkaim’s Eating for Energy. This excellent ebook contains all the information you need to know to successfully transition to a raw foods diet, including several meal plans and recipes.
